Maureen is Running for 18th LD Rep Position 2
1. What are your three primary concerns/issues with your LD
- Education (funding the McCleary Supreme Court Decision)
- Transportation (passing a transportation budget that properly allocates a fair share to Clark County)
- Infrastructure (supporting our cities to prepare for new neighbors and businesses)
2. What do you find interesting about politics
I enjoy door belling & meeting my neighbors, finding opportunities to help others, and leveraging my global business experience to come up with creative solutions to create a thriving community!
3. What qualities do you believe make an effective representative?
I have spent the majority of my career in leadership for Fortune 500 companies including McAfee, Intel, Bank of America and Limited Brands. I know what employees and employers need to succeed. I will continue to champion investments in education including STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math), trade schools, and higher education. In my global travels, I have gained experience in what works in creating a local climate where businesses can thrive. I get results!
4. What would you do different from your opponent (incumbent) if elected?
Minimum Wage: I believe that it is time to increase the minimum wage because you shouldn’t work full time and live in poverty. My opponent proposed a bill to slash the minimum wage to $6/hour
Teachers: I think teachers deserve our respect and appreciation. My Opponent has publicly blamed teachers for the "demise of education in America".
Bridge: I think we should be fiscally responsible & focus our spending on crucial projects like the I5 bridge replacement. My Opponent thinks we should build 3 bridges, a tunnel and a bypass.
Education: I believe it is our moral obligation to fully fund education and provide a safe learning environment for our kids. My Opponent has voted against every single education bill.
Economics: I have witnessed the State of Kansas implement “Red State” economics – cutting income & sales tax resulting in 45% less revenue, drastic cuts to education and transportation and the state’s credit downgrading. My Opponent insists that we implement these disastrous Tea Party Tactics in Washington State.
Regulation: I believe that the transportation of highly combustible Bakken crude oil across our railways should be supervised and regulated to protect our communities like Ridgefield, Washougal and Camas. My Opponent is against safety standard of any kind and views it as an infringement of freedom..
Vision: Finally, I believe that I represent the future of Legislative District 18. I plan to keep my day job at Intel because I enjoy it and it keeps me honest, in the real world and I work with smart people. We don’t want career politicians, do we? I envision Clark County to be a place where small businesses flourish, our children thrive academically and the Middle Class have a home. And where we can all exercise acceptances of our neighbors - no matter their economics, religion or politics!
5. What do you like most about your district?
I share the same values as my neighbors. I value education, a strong community in which my husband and I are raising our little girl and the beauty of our natural resources.
6. Why should we vote for you?
As a proud parent to a public school student, I am an independent, moderate Champion for the Middle Class. I have found success in business by listening to both sides of issues with curiosity and respect. I apply my experience in global economics and business strategy to build strong relationships in Olympia. In the business world, we see results when people work together. In representing you, I will put the values of our community - investing in education, fueling our local economy, and real transportation solutions - ahead of partisan politics!
