THANK YOU CLARK COUNTY ... Now what?

richR

The Clark County Democrats would like to thank our 150+ volunteers, our school districts, law enforcement and local media for an incredible Caucus event taking place at 22 sites from Yacolt to Washougal to Vancouver to La Center and all points in between. An incredible 14,000 Democrats participated in this years' precinct caucuses! Over 1,377 delegates were elected proportionally allocated by presidential candidate choice.  Clark County echoed the rest of the state's results with Sanders winning 77% to Clinton's 23%.

The Caucus was just the first step in a process where eventually Washington state will send 119 delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia during the week of July 25, 2016 where our party's nominee will be determined. Thank you Clark County for making this grass-roots event a success! For those of you who were elected delegates or alternates, please read the information below about what you should be expecting to do or receive next in this process.

What Should I Do Now?

Very Important! Did you Get a Blue or Yellow Slip at the Caucus?
The state party is busy processing thousands of forms and compiling delegate lists. If you were elected a delegate or alternate and DID NOT receive a blue or yellow slip at the Caucus, please call our office 360.254.9116 and leave your name, precinct number, email address, phone number, presidential choice and whether you were a Delegate or Alternate.

You Should Hear From the Party the Week of April 11th
Confirmed delegates and alternates will get an email or letter confirming their status and other details about the county convention. If you don't get a communication by April 16th, Don't Panic! Please call our office 360.254.9116.

VERY IMPORTANT! If you plan to be considered as a delegate to the national convention in July you MUST FILL OUT a candidacy form and have it to the state party NO LATER THAN Friday May 6.

What's Next for Delegates and Alternates?

STEP ONE:  COUNTY CONVENTION AND LD CAUCUS - Sunday May 1, 2016
Even though some of the materials (including your blue and yellow slips) stated the LD Caucuses will be held April 17, in Clark County we combine our County Convention with our LD Caucuses. Please don't worry about being anywhere on April 17. Your next important date to remember is Sunday, May 1st. This will take place at Skyview High School, beginning at 1:00 pm, but be there early!

Our County Convention is not a presidential rally. We conduct some party business, feature our local candidates and provide tabling for our candidates and supported causes. We will also consider Resolutions that were submitted on Caucus day. During our convention, we will break into LD Caucus groups for the 17th, 18th and 49th LDs where another round of delegate selection will take place. These delegates will go on to STEP TWO, the 3rd Congressional District Caucus. Our allotment for this step is as follows per LD:

17th LD ... 25 Delegates and 13 Alternates
18th LD ... 28 Delegates and 14 Alternates
49th LD ... 27 Delegates and 14 Alternates

STEP TWO:  3rd CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT CAUCUS - Saturday May 21, 2016
Delegates selected at the LD Caucuses May 1st will advance to the 3rd CD Caucus for consideration to be a delegate to the National Convention. The 3rd CD (Southwest Washington) will choose 3 men and 3 women for the Philadelphia convention. These will be selected at the 3rd CD Caucus.  If you want to go to Philadelphia and don't get selected at this caucus, you have one more chance to go as an "at-large" delegate who will be selected at the State Convention (Step three).

Please stay tuned to our Facebook page and website for information on the place and time for the 3rd CD Caucus. It will be held in Vancouver, WA.

STEP THREE:  STATE CONVENTION - June 16-18, 2016, Tacoma WA
Delegates selected at the LD Caucuses May 1st will also be seated at the state convention in Tacoma (June 16-19, location to be announced soon). State Committee women and men from the 49 Legislative districts in Washington will then select the final group of delegates to represent Washington at the Philadelphia convention. The state party platform and resolutions will also be determined at the state convention.

VERY IMPORTANT! If you plan to be considered as a delegate to the national convention in July you MUST FILL OUT a candidacy form and have it to the state party NO LATER THAN Friday May 6.
