and now Republicans are creating hassles and expenses for YOU
Please read the following information!
On March 25, the Republican administration released an executive order making radical changes to how YOU register to vote and who gets to vote in our next elections.
It is one more big-government hassle for every single voter—this means YOU
- This is a big-government intrusion into the lives of all voters. You will have to provide your birth certificate, passport, or REAL ID card to register to vote for your Congressperson, U.S. Senators, and President. If, like 21 million American citizens, you don’t have one of these, you can no longer vote.
- If you do have one, you have a new hassle and more chores to do for the government. Fill out a new form, gather your documents, and provide copies of them, or else you can no longer vote.
- You will also have to make a trip, stand in line, and show your forms to a government office in person. Congress’ version of the Executive Order, a corrupt bill called the SAVE Act, requires every voter to go in person and wait at a government office to show their documents, or else they cannot vote.
- You will have to pay the government a fee to obtain a passport or a real ID, and if you cannot afford it, you cannot vote.
- The Republican Party—all of them—think this is great. Not one local, state, or federal Republican in the entire state of Washington is opposing this. Why?
- Because it was never about election integrity. Just the opposite. It is a corrupt Republican scheme to stop women, busy working families, and low-income families from voting, because those groups vote for Democrats in large numbers.
It targets women and busy working families
- Nearly 80% of married women — more than 69 million American women — adopt their partner’s surname, and they would be unable to register to vote if their name on the voter rolls does not perfectly match their name on their proof of citizenship. The League of Women Voters confirms this.
- Busy working families are less likely to learn about these changes, and less likely to go through the hassle so they can vote. Many will find out too late to comply, or simply decide the hassle isn’t worth it.
- These two things are true: women and working families vote against this President by large margins; and his Executive Order will stop many of them from voting.
- “Let’s keep it real: this order is not about protecting elections; it is about making it harder for voters — particularly women voters — to participate in them,” said Celina Stewart, Chief Executive Officer of the League of Women Voters of the United States.
It’s a federal intrusion into states’ rights
- It would invalidate more than 250,000 Washington ballots postmarked on time but arriving after Election Day. All 250,000 Washingtonians would be disenfranchised.
- The U.S. Constitution gives states the authority to determine their election systems.
- The Executive Order empowers federal agencies to comb through the state’s voter rolls and question and remove people from the rolls.
It targets the most vulnerable
- If you receive Medicaid or other federal benefits, the government is not allowed to share the voter registration form with you unless they verify your documentation first.
- “The head of each Federal voter registration executive department or agency (agency) under the National Voter Registration Act, 52 U.S.C. 20506(a), shall assess citizenship prior to providing a Federal voter registration form to enrollees of public assistance programs.”
- The elderly, people in rural areas, people with disabilities, and people of color have fewer resources to deal with these new hassles and unnecessary barriers to the fundamental right to vote.
It’s a fake problem
- The alleged purpose of the bill is to stop noncitizens from voting. This is already illegal in federal elections, and there is no evidence to suggest that noncitizen voting is occurring at any meaningful scale.
It’s a hidden agenda
- This is not really about noncitizens voting. It is about stopping women and busy working families from voting, because those groups tend to vote against MAGA.
- Trade wars, firing hundreds of thousands of workers, and general chaos are bad for economies; and Trump’s policies continue to alienate women. When working people see the economy decline and women see even more reason to vote against this administration, the Republicans still want to remain in power. So, this Executive Order and the SAVE Act in Congress are designed to stop millions of women and working people from voting in 2026.
- “This executive order is an assault on our republic and a dangerous attempt to silence American voters,” says the League of Women Voters’ CEO, Celina Stewart.
It will stop millions of American citizens who vote right now from voting in 2026
- How is that good for our American democracy? It’s not. It is a corrupt attempt to keep Republicans in power no matter how much they wreck the economy and hurt our country.
- This Republican administration is corrupt, incompetent, and cruel, and Republicans everywhere are going right along with it.
good jobs, affordable lives, and treating people right.
