Friends and fellow Democrats, the choice before us all is whether we want to be good human beings, and whether we want America to be a good nation.
We stand unequivocally against fascism, bigotry, ICE, and un-Constitutional authoritarianism. Please be sure to attend our Kiggins Conversation on these very topics, with Governor Ferguson, our Vice-chair Donna Sinclair, NAACP Vice-president Rev. Michael Jones, and Port Commissioner Temple Lentz.
What we stand for is even more powerful. We can and should be a nation that gets better with every generation, based on the principles of competence and love toward all people. As Democrats, we are ready to make that choice, and we embrace five new inalienable rights for all people: food, housing, health care, education, and secure employment. Every person has dignity and there can be a place for everyone in our good nation. The economy will get stronger when all are included, our powerful companies will thrive even more, and all people will be included in our economic success and treated as valuable and important parts of our community. Every single one of them.
It’s a choice you can make. We can have that nation: a positive leader among nations, a world-class economy, and secure lives for every person. You only have to say you want it, through your votes and your support. That is why I am asking you to become a sustaining donor to the Clark County Democrats. This nation will go where we the people lead it. Please help us lead it in a better direction.
America can do anything, so we can certainly provide these five new inalienable rights to our people. In my own career, I’ve already built pieces of this vision, like the Washington State Opportunity Scholarships and the Economic Security for All reforms. These state laws give regular folks great lives through apprenticeship, supported job search, or college scholarships, depending on what each person needs. They came in under budget and beat all their performance targets, because we designed them with competence, and they changed tens of thousands of lives for the better. I’ve written an entire book, Joe Lake Journal, on how to competently provide food, housing, health care, education, and good jobs for all, while also making our economy and companies even stronger. Our local Democrats have adopted these five new inalienable rights in our local Unity Platform, as well.
You already know in your heart this is the right thing to do and the realistic and practical thing to do. Now we need competent people, practical approaches, and your clear direction telling the politicians that this is what the people want.
In a healthy society, the company owners and the people are on the same team, and the economy and all the people thrive together. There is room for everyone here, and everyone has a place at our table. In these bleak times, we must remind ourselves and our friends that we’re not just fighting against mean-spirited incompetence, rather, we are also standing up for the beautiful and positive vision of America’s future. We can have that kind of America—a shining city on a hill. Cast your vote to say you want it and become a sustaining donor today to help us build strength and momentum.
Forward together!
