Vancouver, WA – The Clark County Democrats strongly condemn the recent attack on the
Temple Israel synagogue outside of Detroit, Michigan. On March 12, 2026, in what the FBI has
described as a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community, an attacker armed with a
rifle rammed his vehicle into one of the nation’s largest synagogues before being fatally shot.
Places of worship—whether a synagogue, church, mosque, temple, or any other sacred space—
must always be places of safety, reflection, and community. Violence against any faith
community is an attack on the fundamental values of respect, freedom of religion, and human
dignity that define our country.
America is strongest when people of every creed, color, culture, and background are welcomed
and respected. Our diversity is not a weakness; it is one of our greatest strengths. Every person
deserves the freedom to practice their faith without fear.
Our hearts are with our Jewish American friends and neighbors as they process this painful act
of hatred. We stand with you in solidarity, and we reaffirm our commitment to building a
community—and a nation—where all religions are welcome and antisemitism, bigotry, and
violence against anyone have no place and no apologists. Clark County, and our nation, must be
loving and welcoming toward all.
Together, we must continue to speak out against hate in all its forms and work toward a future
rooted in compassion, understanding, and justice for all.
